Anjouan's first round of ballots to elect the new President of the Autonomous island took place Sunday 15 th June in a safe and calm atmosphere.
International observers noticed a weak participation of voters due probably to many reasons, notably the lack of fuel in the island, which stifles the transportation of people, and of rice which is the main staple food of local people not being available.
According to the Commission in charge of the elections, Mohamed Janfari won 2,080 votes and Moussa Toybou 2,000, making slight difference of 80 votes. In others words the former got 42.8 per cent and latter 42.5 per cent of votes. The High Court of Constitution will have to validate these results within 72 hours." A second round is now due on June 29
The current political situation and Elections in Anjouan will not affect the Offshore business set up in 2003 which was authorised through the Anjouan Legislative Assembly and resolutions and legislation passed in 2005, giving Anjouan Corporate Services Ltd, exclusive rights to sell all Anjouan offshore services.
We all look forward to peace and harmony in Anjouan. |
